Tokelau Embraces PACC+
14 May 2013 - Tokelau is one of four countries that the UNDP Samoa Multi-Country Office covers. With its approximate 1,400 population, Tokelau is a small country consisting of three atolls 500 kilometres north of Samoa. On the contrary to its beautiful landscape lying in the Pacific tropical cyclone belt, Tokelau is one of the most vulnerable islands to natural disasters. Not only in regards to cyclones but also earthquakes, tsunamis, and drought. Tokelau is in the frontline of Climate Change.
Tokelau has been subjected to many development interventions, and UNDP with other agencies has been supporting the Tokelau government in managing disaster risks in the case of extreme weather events. Such projects include water supply, conservation, coast line protection and provision of renewable energy.

Capacity development measures presented to kick-start the implementation of the Trade, Commerce and Manufacturing Sector Plan in Samoa

10 May 2013, Apia – The Government of Samoa has developed an ambitious sector plan for Trade, Commerce and Manufacturing - the TCM Sector Plan, which was approved by the cabinet in late 2012. The plan is now being operationalized. This operationalization process includes initial steps such as creation of a Coordination Unit (TCM-CU) and development of a medium term expenditure framework; a resource mobilization strategy and a related capacity development strategy. Samoa is one of the ten beneficiary countries of the UNDP/Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) capacity development facility which will support institutional capacity development under the EIF Tier I project. Samoa is also preparing proposals for substantive trade initiatives under the Tier II funding window. The Samoan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (MFAT) and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labor (MCIL) are chiefly responsible for the implementation of the TCM sector plan, working with all stakeholders.
